Lama Tenzin Choegyal and the Himalayan Kids
Sponsored by PFC since 2001.
Since 2001, PFC has been sponsoring the Humanitarian Hall of Fame Buddhist monk, Lama Tenzin Choegyal, and his heroic efforts to rescue children from the Dolpo region of the Himalaya Mountains. The journey involves trekking 10 hours/day for over 15 days while climbing over altitudes of 18,000 feet through treacherous and death-defying weather conditions over the Himalayas and often encountering mercenaries. The brave monk and his group of children push through the insurmountable odds to the orphanage in India, where Lama Tenzin has created a safe and loving home as well as a private school for education. We are inspired by the great work of Lama Tenzin and resilience and determination of the children.

PFC actively supports the great work of Buddhist Monk Lama Tenzin Choegyal, who is the founder of the C.E.D. (Children’s Educational Development) Institute, an orphanage for neglected children of the Himalaya and G.I.F.T. (Girls’ Institute for Technology) which empowers disabled girls from remote villages of the Himalayas.
PFC arranged the resources for the award-winning documentary Walking the Waking Journey. Partnerships For Change is also a founding partner with Lama Tenzin in creating the G.I.F.T. Project.
PFC linked Lama Tenzin to a funder to cover the tuition to college for the first high school graduates from the C.E.D. Institute. They are the first girls in the history of the Upper Dolpo region to attend college.
In Lama Tenzin’s annual trips to the United States, PFC develops further volunteer and financial support for C.E.D. Institute.
