Partnerships For Change (PFC), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization headquartered in San Francisco, is dedicated to the promotion of sustainable development through direct humanitarian action and transforming social and economic conditions of underserved communities around the globe.

Since 1990, Partnerships For Change® (PFC) has promoted social and economic transformation through direct humanitarian action and sustainable development. Based in San Francisco, PFC is an international, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to positive transformation at the community level. PFC works with communities around the world, empowering individuals to achieve their full potential as well as building and strengthening community alliances. Our projects have included empowering social and spiritual entrepreneurs, advancing transformational healthcare, empowering women, accelerating social, economic and environmental transformation, catalyzing change through the media and leading groups on global learning journeys.

Partnerships For Change® (PFC) has long been recognized and acknowledged as a global leader in human development along with organizations such as Amnesty International, Green Peace, Habitat for Humanity and PETA. PFC also works closely with the United Nations, United Nations Global Compact, United Nations Environment Programme and the United Nations Foundation, as well as Johns Hopkins Medicine and the University of California San Francisco Medical Center. Our work has been featured on CNN, PBS, Nightly Business Report, CBS NBC, ABC, Orange County Register, as well as international newspapers, magazines and, radio stations and magazines.

Jackie co-founded Partnerships For Change in 1990 with Linda Alber and has led it ever since. She conceived the original model for Chicken Soup for the Soul, wrote the international best seller Heart at Work (McGraw Hill) and, with Heidi Alber, The New Heart at Work, endorsed by Marc Benioff. She was appointed by Maryland Governor William Donald Schaefer to a Self Esteem task force and was made a Knight of St. Francis in 2008.

She has been featured on CBS Evening News, CNN, NBC, ABC, PBS and Business Week, was the opening speaker at the Pontifical Salesian University conference in Rome in June 2025, a panelist at the Yale Forum on Religion and Ecology and Laudato Si’ Research Institute conference in July 2026, and in 2026 received the International Good Practices Award, shared with Christine Arena of Generous Films.

    Co-founded in San Francisco by Jacqueline Miller and Linda Alber.

  2. 1999

    Dr. Patch Adams and 35 medical doctors deliver over $500,000 in medical supplies to Kosovo war refugee camps.

  3. 2001

    PFC begins sponsoring Lama Tenzin Choegyal and the rescue of children from the Upper Dolpo region of the Himalayas.

  4. 2005

    Over $100,000 in financial support to rebuild a school with the St. Thomas Basilica in Chennai after the tsunami.

  5. 2011

    PFC-sponsored Miss Representation premieres at Sundance and airs on the Oprah Winfrey Network.

  6. 2020

    Accredited by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

  7. 2025

    Opening speaker at the Pontifical Salesian University conference, Rome.

  8. 2026

04 /How funds are used

Most of every dollar goes to the work.

PFC receives funds from private donations, grants, foundations, sales from products, and the Better Earth Note. In most instances, 10% of the funds we receive are designated for overhead, 5% to 10% for financial accounting, and the remainder of 80% to 85% is utilized for direct implementation of projects.

PFC applies the accounting standard for organizations and businesses that have sales or revenue of $5 million or less. Most recent published financial statement (FY June 2014, PDF).

Is Partnerships For Change a registered charity?

PFC is a nonprofit charitable 501(c)(3) organization under the laws of the I.R.S., in the United States of America. PFC is incorporated in the state of Nevada. Our EIN is 88-0303288.

How do you choose which projects to support?

We use a social, economic and environment impact criteria for underserved communities to select projects. The project must satisfy substantial criteria from the following questions: Will it economically empower the community? Will it improve the environment? Will it help socially liberate at-risk populations? Will it serve as a demonstration project for replication purposes? Does it foster self-reliance and self-sustainability? Does it empower innovative breakthrough models? Does it serve toward a Tipping Point in that community?
